查理斯·羅伯特·達爾文(Charles Robert Darwin,1809年2月12日—1882年4月19日),英國生物學家,進化論的奠基人。曾經乘坐貝格爾號艦作了歷時5年的環球航行,對動植物和地質結構等進行了大量的觀察和採集。出版《物種起源》,提出了生物進化論學說,從而摧毀了各種唯心的神造論以及物種不變論。

除了生物學外,他的理論對人類學、心理學、哲學的發展都有不容忽視的影響。恩格斯將“進化論”列為19世紀自然科學的三大發現之一(其他兩個是細胞學說、能量守恆轉化定律),對人類有傑出的貢獻。
